The diagnosis of facial pain is based on a careful history, clinical assessment and appropriate radiological investigations. Facial pain may be neurological or vascular in origin but could also be dental or may be arising from the temporomandibular joints. Occasionally it could be atypical in nature without any known aetiology. A variety of treatment options are available for management of patients with temporomandibular joint and facial pain, but treatment is dependent on an accurate diagnosis.
